A learning path in eight lenses

Data Management Path

One dataset, eight ways of seeing it: averages, sets, odds and a sine curve for Alberta’s seasons, how weather stations and sampling make data, why our eyes trust some charts more than others, spreadsheets, databases, clean data, privacy and backups, Nightingale’s rose and Minard’s map, writing a data story, designing beautiful, honest charts and infographics, and ending with a real Alberta weather dataset you can download as a CSV. Self-directed modules for curious learners, 13 and up, adults included. Type, tap and draw right on the pages. If you’re not logged in, your work saves in this browser. Members’ work saves to their account. Use Print my work or Print blank on any module to print it.

Lens 7, The Art & Design of Data Management, is open to everyone. The other seven lenses are for members: log in to open them. Each module works on its own, so start with whichever grabs you, and save Lens 8 (Execution) for last: it leads into the capstone in the printed book.

Sample dataset: Alberta weather 2024 (CSV), monthly summaries for Calgary and Edmonton. Data source: Environment and Climate Change Canada (source and licence).
